Happy Observe The Moon Night!

On Saturday, the 16th of October 2021, the Moon was celebrated all over the world.

“Observe The Moon Night” is a yearly occurring event.

You could follow this event on social media, during public outreaches, etc.

Unfortunately, I could only observe the Moon for a short time with my binoculars because of clouds, but it was still worth it. Hopefully, you had the time to observe or image the Moon.

At least I could contribute to this event on social media with a reprocess I did recently on my lunar image “First Quarter Moon 2018”.  I made 3 versions of it: 1) Heavy crop in portrait orientation, de-rotated; 2)  Portrait orientation, de-rotated; 3) Landscape orientation, original view (Please, see below from left to right or in my portfolio).

Capturing & Software

The capturing was done with the camera mounted on the telescope, in prime focus. I used an intervalometer for the amount, duration, and delay of the frames.  With the Synscan hand controller, I slewed my telescope to the Moon and synced it on the target. No PC or capturing software was used at that time.

The moon image is an 80% stack of 102 frames.

I used the following software: PIPP; AutoStakkert!3, ImPPG, DPP4 (only picture 1), and Affinity Photo (logo & description).

The equipment I used for this image:

  • Telescope: Sky-Watcher Explorer BD N200/1000

  • Mount: Sky-Watcher NEQ5 Synscan GoTo

  • Camera: Canon EOS 750D

  • Intervalometer

If you’re interested in buying one of the moon images below, you’ll find them in my shop.

Or do you want to learn how to process an image like that? Feel free to contact me via the contact form.

These images of the Moon are also showcased in my portfolio.

  1. Hi Beatrice,
Your lunar images are fantastic, very nice to see! I always enjoy seeing others’ photographs of the moon and learning how they obtained and processed their images. I look forward to our next session on the MSRO.
    Thanks,

    Jerry
